Ei Publican Partnerships reopens Falmouth’s Cutty Sark after £150,000 investment

By James Russell: Ei Publican Partnerships reopens Falmouth’s Cutty Sark after £150,000 investment

August 17, 2017

The Cutty Sark pub, which overlooks Falmouth Bay in Cornwall, has reopened its doors after nine months following a £150,000 refurbishment project jointly funded by Ei Publican Partnerships and the new publicans.

Ei Publican Partnerships has invested £100,000 to significantly enhance the pub, including a complete redecoration to create a modern, welcoming feel. A new kitchen has been fitted, and attractive wooden flooring laid throughout. New lighting has been installed to enhance the aesthetics, while the bar has been repositioned and the front entrance re-paved. The garden to the rear has also been improved to create an ideal space for alfresco dining.

In addition, previously derelict space on the first and second floors of the building have been converted into 10 rooms offering comfortable, attractive and affordable holiday accommodation.

Publicans Mark and Hanna Martin, who have recently moved to Cornwall from Gloucestershire, were integral to the redesign and have invested in the pub, including installing new kitchen equipment.

Mark, who has a background in hospitality, said: “When we first saw The Cutty Sark it looked like nothing had changed for the last 40 years but we knew it was a project we wanted to take on. We’ve worked hard to modernise it but it’s been testing – the building fought back!

“After months of hard work, we’re delighted with its new look which is modern and fresh. We’re now offering food and our highly skilled chef, who has worked at Claridge’s during his career, is able to offer something a bit different to local people. We are very excited to be here and look forward to getting to know the locals.”

Peter Gatling, Senior Regional Manager at Ei Publican Partnerships, added: “As part of our commitment to investing in our pubs, we are delighted to have reopened the Cutty Sark which is one of Falmouth’s most prominent venues, overlooking the docks and bay.

“We have found some excellent publicans who have many great ideas for the pub which we’re sure the local community and visitors to the area will love. We wish them all the very best in their new venture.”

A second phase of development is planned for the pub as an additional area downstairs has the potential to become a late-night venue.

Mark and Hanna are planning a launch party for guests on 18th August.
