The Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group have handed over £19,000 to A&M Scotland.

Steve Graham, Managing Director of The Manorview Group presented the cheque to charity Co-Founder Andy McLaren.

Ex-professional footballer, Andy, who played for Dundee United, Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle, received the cheque at Petershill Sports Centre in Glasgow, where the charity runs a summer holiday camp for young people.

A&M Scotland provide facilities for boys and girls in some of the most deprived areas in Scotland. They offer football coaching, dancing classes and life skills at no cost to the young people who participate.

Part of the charity’s work involves the organisation of holiday camps and these run for three weeks of the school summer break. Every day hundreds of boys and girls visit the camps to play sports, make friendships and have fun. They are also fed every day, which can provide a lifeline for some parents who find it difficult to feed their children during the school summer holidays.

The money was raised from a charity day organised in conjunction with A&M Scotland. The day included a Legends Football Match, which saw players Arthur Numan, Bert Konterman and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink pulling on a jersey, and a Sportsman’s Dinner held at The Busby Hotel in Busby, Glasgow, where speakers included Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld and ex-Rangers Football player Derek Johnstone.

The total combined figure raised from the day was £19,000.

Steve Graham, Manorview CEO said, “A&M make a real difference to the lives of young people. They are keeping active, being fed and looked after. And they are also gaining confidence, having positive experiences, and shown better life chances. I’m delighted to donate this money in the hope that it can help A&M continue their great work”.

Andy McLaren, co-founder A&M Scotland said, “We’ve got hundreds of boys and girls here who are making friendships and keeping active in a safe environment. We provide food and ensure all our young people are fed and energised. Sadly, we’re aware that some parents cannot afford to feed their children during the school summer holidays, and this is a real problem, which we see every day. We need to continue to do what we do and ensure our young people have the best life chances possible”.
