All drinks were ‘on the house’ at Skylight, Tobacco Dock’s new rooftop destination, this weekend. Instead customers were asked to donate to two charities the British Red Cross’ Saturday Night For London’ and the Jo Cox Foundation’s ‘Great Get Together’ inspired by the ideals of the murdered MP. Skylight handed over a ‘wapping’ £22k, after the four day fundraiser.
Patrick Donovan, Managing Director of Tobacco Dock: “Skylight is hugely thankful to its thoughtful customers, who all gave generously to these two fantastic causes, it’s clear that Londoners are defying those who seek to change our way of life, and our customers were proud to stand side-by-side with the excellent charities that support victims of attacks and foster understanding between different communities.”
As a key member of the thriving Wapping community, Tobacco Dock and Skylight will also support this weekend’s “Great Get Together” on June 18th by sponsoring a family fun day on the canal side, next to the venue.
Iona Lawrence, Jo Cox Foundation: “We are delighted that Skylight chose to donate this incredible sum of money to The Jo Cox Foundation on its Wapping fundraiser weekend. This level of solidarity and love for Jo and the values she stood for means a great deal to Jo’s friends and family and this donation will go towards creating the kinder, fairer and more tolerant world that Jo believed was possible.”
Mike Adamson, Chief Executive of the British Red Cross: “We have been overwhelmed by the support and response from the British public and businesses on Saturday night. It’s fantastic to see the capital returning to Saturday night and showcasing the resilience of the people and the city.”
Skylight was designed to offer the people of London an accessible and fun space to relax and enjoy some of the best views this city can offer. Occupying the top three levels of a former car park in the heart of East London, the 600 capacity Skylight features multiple bars, 3 croquet lawns, petanque courts and street food stalls.
Created by Tobacco Dock and the experience agency Interact, this original rooftop project breathes a new life into an unused space in East London. With extensive regeneration in Wapping establishing the area as a place to go out and have fun, Skylight is a new addition to what is quickly becoming a hub for creative Londoners. Perfectly situated between the thriving scenes of Shoreditch and Peckham and rubbing shoulders with both Canary Wharf and The City, Skylight boasts unobstructed views of some of London’s most iconic buildings, such as The Shard, The Gherkin and The Walkie Talkie.
Open until 11pm from Thursday to Sunday and bank holidays, with free entry and access to sunshine all day long, Skylight is the perfect place to enjoy summer, from lazy lunches and post work drinks, to cocktail- fuelled croquet tournaments and sunset parties.
