New Head Chef adds flavour to bath hotel

By James Russell: New Head Chef adds flavour to bath hotel

Ben Abercrombie, Head Chef, Apex City of Bath Hotel

Bath’s newest hotel has taken on a flavour of its own with the appointment of a new Head Chef.

Award-winning Ben Abercrombie has joined the team at Apex City of Bath Hotel, and is set to bring a creative flair to the kitchen that he’s confident will win over the city’s foodies as well as hotel guests from further afield.

Self-taught Ben, aged 26, brings a wealth of culinary experience to the hotel, having worked under some of the UK’s most acclaimed chefs.

After beginning his career as a chef de parti under Mitch Tonks at the Sea Horse in Dartmouth, Ben moved on to work with Mark Hix – at HIX in Soho – as a sous chef before taking the role of Executive Head Chef at The Queen’s Arms in Somerset, where he gained 2AA rosettes, a Michelin ‘Bib’ and a place among the UK’s top 10 gastropubs.

Ben said: “Hotel kitchens are highly pressured environments, but they are also filled with passionate people who have the drive to create wonderful experiences for diners. That will be the team’s ambition for the restaurant at Apex City of Bath Hotel.

“I’m excited to share our food when the hotel opens. I’m a great believer in using seasonal produce to create top quality dishes, and I’m sure that will be evident in the final menu.”

Tim O’Sullivan, General Manager of Apex City of Bath Hotel, said: “I’m delighted to have Ben as part of the senior team. He’s a young and exciting talent whose passion and energy for delivering freshly prepared, high quality food fits perfectly with what we want to deliver at the hotel.

“Ben will lead a large kitchen team to deliver across our restaurant, bar, conference and events and room service. I’m really looking forward to sharing his food with our guests and the local people of Bath.”

Opening on Tuesday 1st August, the four-star Apex City of Bath Hotel will boast 177 bedrooms, restaurant, bar, gymnasium and pool alongside Bath’s only purpose-built city centre conference facility for up to 400 guests. The hotel is ideally located within easy reach of tourist destinations with the world famous Roman Baths situated just a five minute walk away.
