Bristol’s leading four-star hotel is paving the way when it comes to rewarding commitment and success for its staff following a succession of internal promotions.
It’s resulted in 83 percent of all new positions at DoubleTree by Hilton, Bristol City Centre being filled by members of the team who already work at the popular venue and highlights the management’s values to reward hard work and loyalty.
The succession of promotions has included various members of staff, some of whom started at the hotel as apprentices. Having completed their courses, they have now progressed up the ladder into sales executive roles.
There have also been a number of more senior management promotions cementing the hotel’s position as the best city-centre, four-star venue for accommodation, conferences, meetings and events.
Headed by general manager John Dowling, it is now hoped the hotel’s impressive occupancy figures and increase in conference business will continue, while the venue attracts more business and tourist travellers to visit the West Country’s capital.
John said: “Our sales team was recently recognised as being the best across the whole of Hilton’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, and I believe demonstrates that by rewarding hard work and commitment yields the desired results.
“The team here is very close knit and we’d always prefer to give any new job to someone who already works here. It demonstrates to the team that they can progress and forge a good career in the hospitality sector.
“I also believe that venue’s like ours have a responsibility to provide those looking to develop a career in hospitality the opportunities to do so.
“There have been reports nationally on a recruitment crisis in the sector and one way to counter this is by showing those looking to work in hospitality that the rewards are there.”
With occupancy and conference bookings on the rise, John is now looking to recruit a new sales apprentice to help the team deal with the steady rise in enquiries.
John added: “As a business we’re a firm believer in apprentice schemes. They are a great way for people to get hands on experience while gaining relevant qualifications. The fact that we’re actively looking for someone new to start is indicative of a business that is thriving and one that is at the forefront of promoting the city of Bristol.”
