God grant Borough Market the serenity…

By James Russell: God grant Borough Market the serenity…

June 14, 2017

Borough Market reopened for business this morning after being forced to close following the heinous London Bridge terror attack. Market traders, stall holders, cafes and local residents held one minute’s silence to remember the victims before the market bell was rung at 10:00 am.

Donald Hyslop, chair of trustees, said:

“It is essential for the well-being of everyone associated with Borough Market that we return to at least a semblance of normality as soon as we can.”

While the victims of last week’s terror attack will never be forgotten, and while the trauma experienced by the community will weigh heavily for a long time to come, it is essential for the wellbeing of everyone associated with Borough Market that they are enabled to return to at least a semblance of normality as soon as possible. Today, the bell rang, stalls opened, and customers started to arrive, the healing process began.

Anyone who wishes to help in the coming weeks can do so in one simple way: by turning up, putting a buzz back into the atmosphere, and buying some high quality food and drink from the fantastic array of traders who make Borough Market such a special and diverse place. Borough Market will be staying open on Sunday, both this weekend and next. So we would encourage people to show support for Borough and the values of tolerance and community that the Market does so much to promote.

To mark the re-opening of Borough Market one restaurant, Arabica Bar & Kitchen, have added, the aptly named, London Courage to the cocktail menu. One of many thoughtful acts that will help bring this community together to further flourish.

Arabica Bar & Kitchen will donate all ticket sales and £1 per London Courage cocktail sold to the Borough Market Relief Fund.
