The Devonshire Arms, situated on the outskirts of Mellor, Cheshire, has captivated the community after receiving an investment of half a million pounds from Robinsons Brewery. Robinsons felt that the pub had huge potential, especially given its great location and proximity to the popular villages of Mellor and Marple Bridge, but an extensive ten-week refurbishment was required in order to restore the pub back to its glory days as the heart of the community.
Andy Hoyle and Jacqui Burns, Managers of the Devonshire Arms for Inglenook Inns & Taverns, said: “The renovation has lifted the atmosphere of the Devonshire Arms massively. It hasn’t been long since we reopened, but already our customers, old and new, have given wonderful feedback on the fresh look of the pub. We are so happy that the refurbishment has achieved everything we expected it to and more.”
The vision was to design a countrified and timeless pub; which would feel comfortable and inviting for all ages. The core scheme was sympathetic to the period of the building, ensuring that it remained traditional whilst also adding a contemporary feel.
Alan Chapman, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said: “We have provided more trading areas inside and out, along with a relaxed informal dining and drinking area for all. The pub now offers lots of interconnected spaces retaining many cosy pockets for customers to enjoy a few drinks. The pub also boasts brand new log-burning stoves along with oak timber flooring, adding warmth partnered with a traditional ambience. A light airy Orangery connecting inside and out has also been added, allowing customers to dine whilst enjoying the gardens, no matter what the weather may throw at us.”
The most significant works to the site was the complete new layout throughout, with several structural walls removed to open up the pub. The new design allowed for a more suitable bar location which now warrants a much-improved operation. Feature chairs have also been upholstered with floral mulberry fabrics, complementing the ‘William Morris’ wallpaper throughout.
