Del 74 ramp up the Taco Invasion with the launch of their new Cantina Del 74

By James Russell: Del 74 ramp up the Taco Invasion with the launch of their new Cantina Del 74

June 29, 2017

“Two dudes continuing their ongoing mission to bring straight-up, traditional Mexican tacos, tunes and booze to the people of London”

After opening their flagship shop on Lower Clapton Road earlier this year, Del 74 are stoked to announce the opening of their second site within four months.  In keeping with the Del 74 vibe, co-founders Enrique Vivas and Jorge Felizardo Cantina Del74 are joining forces with a long-standing amigo and are launching Cantina Del74 in a secret room behind Helgie’s on Mare Street in London Fields.  To access the Cantina customers will have to make their way through Helgie’s bar first and ready themselves with a sneaky little cocktail or ice cold beer before heading further in for the full Del74 experience.

With Cantina Del74 the team will crank up the excessive atmosphere they have become synonymous for, spreading the word about straight-up, traditional Mexican tacos, beer and margaritas all alongside an incredible soundtrack.  The menu will be based on the Del 74 offering and favourites like their fish taco and the beloved cochinita pibil as well as some amazing new and exciting dishes.  Think 35% old menu, 65% new menu

New dishes making an appearance are:

  • Botana De Brisket
  • Melt in your mouth beef brisket mixed with a bit of rice
  • Served with tortilla chips
  • Chicken Thigh Tacos
  • 24hr marinated chicken thighs
  • Topped with our cur refreshing cucumber salsa
  • Mexican Shrimp cocktail
  • Just the way they serve it at the market in Acapulco

And to celebrate the Summer Cantina Del 74 will also be doing their own unique take on be doing frozen margaritas, and well as jugs of those famous margaritas and the new dishes.

On the unique arrangement of the Helgie’s Bar and Cantina Del74, Jorge says: “You will come into Helgi’s awesome cocktail bar and through to the cantina in the back.  Icelandic in the front, Mexican in the back – like a bad haircut – we will offer a tequila and mezcal in the back and Helg’is fabulous cocktail selection as well as beers in the front”
