From the 14th to the 20th of May, Kêu, the bánh mi specialists, will be crowning their menu of East meets West Vietnamese baguettes with the specially created Hoi An Deluxe bánh mi, in celebration of British Sandwich Week.
A product of French colonialism in Vietnam, the much loved bánh mi combines the classical elements of a French baguette with colourful Vietnamese ingredients, usually topped with fresh coriander, cucumber and pickled cabbage. Kêu’s Hoi An Deluxe will be a spin on their signature sandwich, made with a trio of pork ham, pork floss, house-made chicken liver pate, spiced pork belly, topped with their secret ‘Hoi An Sauce’; a combination of shallots, bbq sauce, pate, minced pork and Vietnamese herbs and spices. As well as the new addition, Kêu’s tried and tested bánh mi will be on offer, including the Chay with smoky aubergine, tofu and mushrooms; Heo Quay with crispy pork belly, hoisin bbq sauce and daikon; Mì Gà with coconut chicken curry, yellow curry sauce and cashew nuts, and the Kimchi BBQ pork edition, with glazed pork shoulder and lemongrass, all stuffed into a freshly baked baguette.
Kêu’s Founder, Hieu Bui, says‘The bánh mi is the ultimate East meets West dish, and a classic comfort food staple in Vietnam. At Kêu we use a combination of classic sandwich must-haves, like our home made pate and terrine, but combine them with the Saigon flavours we love most; fresh herbs, punchy sauces and, of course, some spice – we can’t think of a better way to celebrate British Sandwich week than by giving the quintessential English dish a Vietnamese twist’
Alongside Kêu’s rice bowls, and steamed pork buns, bánh mi are also available to order for delivery to your office, saving you from an uninspiring lunch al-desko, across the Shoreditch, Soho and City delis.
