Hakkasan Hanway place hosts ‘too many critics’ 2017

By James Russell: Hakkasan Hanway place hosts ‘too many critics’ 2017

May 31, 2017

This July Hakkasan Hanway Place will be hosting humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger’s annual Too Many Critics event on Monday 10th July. The unique event reverses the roles of the chefs and food critics, giving them the chance to experience life in each other’s shoes for one night only.

A team of some of the top restaurant critics will be dropping their pens and picking up the pans as they truly find out what it’s like to be on the other side of the pass. The critics will be put through their paces to prepare an exclusive dinner, learning how to create Hakkasan’s award winning Cantonese cuisine. This year’s critics include Bill Knott, Jay Rayner, Joe Warwick, Tracey Macleod, William Sitwell, Adam Hyman and Kate Spicer.

This year’s host is BBC Radio 2’s Nigel Barden, who will also be presiding over the live auction. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on a host of exciting products and exclusive money-can’t-buy experiences in the live and silent auctions.

The restaurant critics will be judged by top chefs and restaurateurs as they get a rare opportunity to pass judgement on the most influential tastemakers. Guests will enjoy a selection of Hakkasan signature dishes such as Crispy duck salad, Grilled Chilean seabass in honey and Stir-fry black pepper rib eye beef.

Bill Knott (The FT’s How to Spend It) says, “Thanks to Action Against Hunger, I’ve seen first-hand how the money we raise in the UK transforms the lives of children who live thousands of miles away. We are all global citizens now, and it really is within our power to end child hunger in our lifetimes. I think future generations will hold us accountable if we don’t grasp that chance.”

Tickets are priced at £120 per person, with all proceeds from the event going to Action Against Hunger. Tickets can be purchased through the Eventbrite page here.
