Dartmouth House is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion in the very heart of Mayfair, home to the English-Speaking Union since the 1920s. Converted from two houses in the late 1880s by Lord Revelstoke, Dartmouth House contains beautiful painted ceilings, glamorous and decedent crystal chandeliers and a sweeping marble staircase. It has style.
The Bearded One and I were invited to taste the spring summer menu designed by Joseph Fisher, inspired by British designers. This is very fitting for the H+J team that states “Food is like Fashion. It never stands still”.
When we arrived we were greeted with the option of a prosecco espuma, or a foamy Pimms cocktail on a tasting spoon, both were a unique twist on an arrival drink.
Over 80 guests attended the glamorous event designed to connect fashion and food and appreciate the gorgeous surroundings.
We ascended the beautiful staircase to find a glittering fashion/art installation upstairs, designed by George Chaffey (winner of the 2014 young designer of the year). Once inside the dining room, we sampled the Alexander McQueen canapés menu, tuna sponge, cockle popcorn, scallop and salmon.
The pièce de résistance was a Vivienne Westwood inspired Cake-dress revealed in the Churchill Room. It was lovingly crafted and painstakingly put together by Chef Joseph. I would love to know how many hours were put into this dress consisting of mini-cakes and decorated with edible paint. It was beautiful and delicious and caught the attention of the crowd.
Chef Joseph next to his labour of love, you can really see the dedication on his face.
I would like to Thank Rebecca at Harbour + Jones and Eveleen from Mexia Comms for the invitation.
