Birmingham company creates smart heating controls to cut energy bills

Every business is looking for ways to cut overheads while creating an excellent experience for their customers and pleasant working environment for their staff. Energy is a major expense, so an increasing number of business owners are now turning to smart technology to help reduce their bills.

Birmingham company Genius Hub has created a groundbreaking and award winning new smart heating control technology that can slash heating costs. By automatically turning down the heat in unoccupied rooms, the University of Strathclyde estimates that the system can cut heating costs by 48%. Resource Efficient Scotland, a government body also north of the border, have also accredited the system to be supported under their interest free grant scheme based on the installation in a chain of hotels in Glasgow.

Hotels have been the first to benefit from using the new Genius Control system. The occupancy level of a hotel can vary significantly on different nights, and in different seasons. Genius Control makes it easy for a hotel to make their guests comfortable and avoid wasting energy. Heating accounts for around 50% of a hotel’s energy consumption, so the potential savings are significant.

Mark Pennells from Chiseldon House Hotel explains how Genius Control helps improve their guest’s experience and cut heating costs:

“Genius Hub was the only system that had the level of control that we were interested in. Plus, it’s great value. With Genius Hub, we had a product that offered far more than the competition, at about a quarter of the cost of other commercial systems. What was most important to us was the ability of being able to control everything from the reception desk, and to quickly respond to an individual guest’s request.

“We have definitely got a two year payback on the total cost of the system, including installation. What’s even more important is that we now have a far more acceptable level of heating throughout the building, and can be responsive to customers. For us, the comfort of our guests comes first, and Genius Hub has definitely improved this.”

There other commercial “Building Energy Management Systems” available on the market, but Genius Control offers the same features for a price that’s much more affordable for most businesses and can even provide the system on a lease where a portion of the savings pay for the installation. Even better, these savings can be achieved without disruption to staff or guests. Installation normally takes two days and can be completed without any mess, disruption or downtime.

Also, the automatic control makes it a “fit and forget” solution. Optionally, staff can also easily control temperatures directly from the reception desk, to respond to customer requests or to completely shut off rooms that won’t be needed. Remote monitoring of temperatures also allows staff to spot radiator faults before they cause a complaint. In this way, Genius Control is a great way to save energy while improving your customer’s experience.
