Luxardo plants new maraschino cherry trees as far as the eye can see

By James Russell: Luxardo plants new maraschino cherry trees as far as the eye can see

April 18, 2017

As cherry trees around the world burst into full blown blossom, Luxardo announces the acquisition of new land to extend its estate of maraschino cherry orchards with the planting of 2,000 trees. The orchard is known as Campo Tramonte and is in a premium area of the Torreglian hills, near the home of Luxardo in Padua, Northern Italy. The new trees are expected to bear fruit in four years time. Luxardo now owns over 30,000 Marasca cherry trees, and this sour cherry variety is exclusively cultivated by Luxardo.

In the UK alone, the sales of Luxardo Maraschino cocktail cherries by distributor Cellar Trends have increased 78 percent over the past year (sales data from Cellar Trends).

Craig Chapman, marketing manager for Luxardo at Cellar Trends, adds, “Luxardo Maraschino is the maraschino of choice in virtually every top cocktail bar. The distinctive deep red cocktail cherries have become popular as the quality garnish in cocktails ranging from the Aviation, Manhattan, Martinez, through to many new inventions. It is not uncommon to see two or even three cherries served on a cocktail stick, and even the syrup is also used for a bright accent of colour in a cocktail. Sales of these cherries are also booming thanks to consumers entertaining at home – for both cocktail making and culinary use, as inspired by celebrity chefs.”

The Luxardo range in the UK comprises Sambuca, Sambuca liqueurs, Amaretto, Limoncello and three cherry

Products: Luxardo Maraschino (32% abv), Luxardo Sangue Morlacco (30% abv) and Luxardo Maraschino Cocktail Cherries (400g jar).
