For years, flutes have had the champagne, sparkling wine and prosecco market to themselves, now, leading distributor of glassware, Artis is reporting that coupes are rapidly growing in popularity, with sales up 30%. The resurgence is partly due to the versatility of the coupe, which can not only be used for champagne, prosecco and sparkling wines, but also a wide variety of cocktails. The trend has been so marked, that this year, Artis has introduced no fewer than five new coupe styles into its 2017 catalogue.
Five New Coupes
In all, there are now 15 different styles of coupes in the recently launched Artis catalogue. The five new styles for 2017 are:
Vinea – pure elegance from Luigi Bormioli. This is a 30cl machine blown coupe made using Luigi Bormioli’s son.hyx technology with a titanium reinforced stem. List price £5.30.
Sublime – another from Luigi Bormioli, this is a straight sided 30cl bowl crystal coupe with the strength of son.hyx technology £3.90.
Hobstar – the latest addition to the best-selling Hobstar collection is this 24cl coupe. It is vintage style featuring a cut glass effect bowl. £3.85.
Heritage – a 26cl coupe with a vintage style decorative stem. £4.40.
Fleur – has a distinctive 27cl bowl that features a decorative retro filigree pattern and a tall, elegant stem. £4.40.
“In the past year, Artis has seen some of its coupes outselling the traditional flute, part of what seems to be an emerging trend. Artis believe that the growth is partly because of the versatility of the coupe in a growing cocktail culture. As with many other areas of the restaurant and bar market, customers are looking for a point of difference and elegant coupes offer something beyond the norm.” Gill Head Marketing Manager says.
