Three of Britain’s most entrepreneurial businesses have partnered to open up the UK’s first takeaway that operates out of a supermarket.

Opening this Saturday 18 March, Bombay Bites Express will give Indian food lovers the choice to eat in-store at Morrisons in the Victoria Shopping Centre, Bradford, or pick up their order at the end of their shop. The restaurant’s menu will also be available on Just Eat, the leading global marketplace for online food delivery, and customers can order for collection or delivery.

Bombay Bites is a Bradford-based family-run business, headed up by Samir Kader. The growing food business has considerable pedigree – Bombay Bites Express is part of the Bombay Stores empire. A city institution for over four decades, Bombay Stores in Bradford is the UK’s largest Indian department store. Last June a ‘Brands by Bombay Stores’ clothes and accessories concession opened in Morrisons Victoria.

Bombay Bites Express, which will employ 10 people, is open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 9:30am to 4pm on Sunday’s. The restaurant’s menu was created by Samir’s mother, Sabra. In addition to offering an Indian breakfast, main dishes include a wide selection of curries, Indian rolls and dosas (a crispy fermented crepe rolled and stuffed with a potato filling, fried onion and spice mix, served with coconut chutney and sambar).

There is a choice of desserts including Indian favourites and popular British classics, as well as a vast selection of hot and cold drinks including fruit lassis, a flavoured yoghurt drink.

Rebecca Singleton, Morrisons director of local solutions, said: “We have listened to the customers who shop in our Victoria store and they told us they’d love a takeaway service as an extra reason to shop with us.”

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director at Just Eat added: “At Just Eat we love innovation. We have over 27,000 Restaurant Partners across the UK, but this is the first to open inside a supermarket.

“Bombay Bites is what Just Eat is all about, producing great food at the heart of the community, and thanks to Morrisons we have a local business expanding. This is a perfect hat-trick for us all.”

Samir Kader, Director at Bombay Bites, said: “We are thrilled that we have the opportunity to partner with large and trusted brands such as Morrisons and Just Eat, so we can really bring something new into the food industry. I have enjoyed these authentic recipes for years now, and am happy that we can share this taste now with the rest of the UK. Like always, we will strive to continuously innovate and hope that one day we can become the trusted brand for Indian Food throughout the UK.”
