The secret is out Joe Allen marks 40 years with birthday burger

By James Russell: The secret is out Joe Allen marks 40 years with birthday burger

February 15, 2017

Marking 40 years as the West-End canteen, Joe Allen will continue its year of celebrations with a dedicated Birthday menu. Having stood the test of time amongst the ever-changing face of London’s restaurant scene, the historic theatreland stalwart in Covent Garden will, for the first time ever, put a burger on its menu.

“The secret burger is synonymous with Joe Allen and we wanted to celebrate its tenure as much as the memories, the team and the iconic posters and wooden panels on the wall!” says Tim Healy. “We had a lot of fun celebrating Joe’s 40th in January, but much to our dismay, we weren’t able to party with all of our regulars. This menu is one of the ways we will be continuing the merriment”, adds Lawrence Hartley.

For those in the know, Joe Allen’s Secret Burger has been a favourite for thespians, famous faces and theatregoers alike for four decades. For a limited time only, the co-owners Tim Healy, Lawrence Hartley and the team at Joe Allen have designed a one-off Birthday burger with a beef patty, fontina cheese, guacamole, corn salsa, jalapenos and spicy ketchup. Accompanying the burger will be a 77up cocktail with strawberry pulp vodka and lemonade, the classic Brownie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. In a further nod to their birthday year, the whole menu will be available for £19.77.

Throughout their Birthday year, Joe Allen will continue to support Mousetrap Theatre Projects with their ‘Dine at Joe’s for £10 offer for members of the charity, dedicated to introducing the magic of theatre to young people. In addition to the Birthday menu, the Joe Allen Comedy Club will acknowledge Joe’s 40th in their own way with a stellar line-up of the restaurant’s much loved comedians, with Norman Lovett on 20th February and Bob Mills, Angela Barnes, Dave Ward and Mary Bourke appearing later in the year.
