La Tasca have launched a partnership with FareShare, the UK’s leading food redistribution charity, to distribute surplus food destined for waste. Ingredients are being sent to charities and community groups who transform them into nutritious meals for vulnerable people.

The first donation was valued at over £14,000 and converted to over 2,181 meals for vulnerable people. La Tasca have committed to further supporting the project with future surplus food provision and the team will take part in volunteering days at FareShare locations across the UK.

FareShare deliver food to over 5,589 charities and community groups across the UK, including homeless hostels, day centres for older people and women’s refuges.

8.4 million people in the UK, the equivalent of the entire population of London, are struggling to afford to eat*. At the same time, at least 270,000 tonnes of surplus food from the UK food and drink industry could be redistributed to feed people each year, this is enough for 650 million meals.

Mos Shamel, Managing Director for La Tasca, said:

“As a community hospitality operator we are pleased to support FareShare and its work to make a difference to the lives of people across the UK who are in difficulty.”

Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive of FareShare, said:

“We are delighted to have agreed a partnership with La Tasca to ensure that their surplus stock feeds people in need, rather than going to waste. Their ongoing support will help our network to get more good, surplus food to charities and community groups across the UK, so they can provide vital and life-changing support for the people who need it most.”
