You would think that working with a hospitality and catering media business, featuring a vast array of food content, could and maybe would lead to a developing a sophisticated palate. While I do like lots of different types of food and I am always open to trying new things, my favourites are basic.
Some of my favourite foods include fish and chips, burgers and pizza, these are meals I have fond memories of during my childhood, foods that I still enjoy today. However, despite not being the most nutritional of foods or indeed perhaps cultured, I’m the kind as a person who prioritises taste over nutrition because food that tastes good perks me up and makes me happy! Happiness is important for good health. If something doesn’t taste good, no matter how nutritious, it’s not on my menu.
Some of my favourite restaurants would fall under the category of casual dining, the ones I frequent deliver consistently good food and service. Zizzi, the Italian chain restaurant is somewhere I have been many times in many different locations throughout the country. Whilst dining there with friends or family, I nearly always order the same, garlic bread with cheese for my starter followed by pepperoni pizza for main. These two favourites are always an enjoyable dining experience at Zizzi, so they get loyalty from this happy customer.
My favourite afternoon consists of going out with my friends on a Saturday afternoon to The Madejski Stadium watching The Royals, hopefully winning a football match!
An essential part of any day at football for me comes at halftime, when I enjoy my steak and ale pie alongside a refreshing beer, you just can’t beat it. It warms the very cockles of my heart. I always enjoy the steak and ales pies at The Madejski Stadium, they have a light crisp pastry with good quality lean steak and just the right about of gravy.
The popularity of pies is emphasised by recent articles featured in H&C News such as the British Pie Awards 2017 and Sodexo sweeping the board at the prestigious World Scotch Pie Championships. So, it seems it’s not just me that enjoys a pie or three.

It’s great working at H&C News reading articles reporting on food of almost every variety, but for me the basics are still the best. Simple fresh ingredients cooked well will always be top of my favourites list.
