We must confess when we received our invitation to the Fish Finger Sandwich Awards, we thought someone was having a bit of fun, but no, they were real so we asked Majella to pop along and see what would unfold…
Being a lover of Fish Fingers, I was actually and very excited to attend this event, really. I was looking forward to visiting The Tramshed also, great venue choice. As I approached, I could smell fish fingers, they lured me into the building. The atmosphere was building as the judging was taking place upstairs, the awards stood silently on a pedestal awaiting their proud new owners.
Captain Birds Eye himself on duty at the awards
Captain Birds Eye himself floated around for photo opportunities. I was on board and have a photo now proudly in my scrapbook.
The Canapés consisted of: Watermelon and Feta Mouthfuls, Watermelon& Feta Canapes, Beef Croquettes, Broadband Falafel and there was also of course two Fish Finger Sandwich options.
An introduction speech was made highlighting the love of Fish Fingers and the fantastic efforts of all the entrants. The winners were then announced, and you can see by the look on their faces below, they were genuinely somewhat taken aback, who wouldn’t have been?
The winners were Gabrielle Sander for her fish fingers with mayo, smoked paprika, capers, lime juice, wasabi and rocket in a farmhouse bap. And, Chris Lanyon, Chapel Café for his fresh Cornish Hake fillet coated in panko breadcrumbs, sandwiched between locally made slices of multi-seed bread and homemade tartare sauce.
The winners, Gabrielle and Chris, will see their winning recipes featured on select Birds Eye Fish Finger packs in 2017. In addition, Gabrielle will receive one year’s supply of Birds Eye Fish Fingers, while Chapel Café’s freezers will be stocked with 24 foodservice packs of Birds Eye Omega 3 Fish Fingers.
The two winners Gabrielle and Chris with head judge Gregg WallaceSo a big thank you to Birdseye, The Judges, the team at The Tramshed, Mischief PR, and huge congratulations to all the entrants and the Winners.
Must say as a final sign off that for all our scoffing pre event it was a great night and the consensus now around the office is that it was a great piece of marketing. Guess what we had for lunch last Friday.
