Pub group reclaims hygge for the brits with house of happiness experience.
There has been nothing like it since the Vikings invaded, the Danish concept of hygge is all over the headlines and a whole series of books have recently been published. To most, it has felt like a new concept, leaving many to seek out the ultimate environment for cosiness and wellbeing. However, Young’s Pubs argue otherwise and say it is nothing new to us Brits and the nation’s pubs have provided exactly this setting for centuries. Instead of candles, cushions and glögg we seek the warmth of the pub, a crackling log fire and hearty comfort food. This January, Young’s are claiming hygge back.
On the 16th January, the nation will wake up to the most depressing day of the year, better known as Blue Monday. Since 1831 Young’s Pubs have been bringing people together, in cosy surroundings, throughout the seasons, and this Blue Monday, Finch’s at Finsbury Square, Moorgate will be transformed into a wellbeing pop-up, Young’s House of Happiness. Young’s conducted a national survey to understand what makes the nation cheeriest, to be published Monday 16th January. The results of this study have been used to create ultimate zen environment in the House of Happiness, ensuring people leave with a smile on their face this Blue Monday.
Visitors to the event will be able to lift their spirits and indulge in the simple pleasures, easily overlooked by modern urban lifestyles, with an immersive celebration of British hygge. On arrival, guests will be presented with a ‘cosiness kit’ containing an eye mask and slippers to leave all traces of the outside world at the doors. The event aims to provide the most relaxing space possible on this fateful day and features complimentary massages, pop-up chatter corners, whisky tastings, letter writing stations, thought-provoking wellbeing talks and ‘happiness bursts’ hosted by Laughology.
Emma Dickinson, Young’s marketing and events manager, says: ‘The Danish concept of hygge feels like a new philosophy that the nation is adopting, but in reality, Young’s Pubs have been offering the same intangible sentiment since its foundation. With Blue Monday heralded as the gloomiest day of the year we feel it is a great opportunity to offer some respite and remind the nation that our pubs are the perfect environment to get together with loved ones by a roaring fire to enjoy comforting food and your favourite drink.’
Places at Young’s House of Happiness are complimentary, but visitors are advised to book their preferred arrival time between 12pm – 4.30pm with Finch’s on 0207 588 3311 or e-mail finchs@youngs.co.uk
Those who cannot make it to Young’s House of Happiness needn’t worry, throughout January and February Young’s Pubs and Geronimo Inns are offering the ideal environment to relax when money is tight and celebrations are few. Sink into a slouchy armchair with your favourite tipple, indulge in your favoured comfort food with friends or enjoy one of the many interactive whisky masterclasses being hosted this winter.
