UK Aparthotel brand, Roomzzz, has reported up to a 17% increase in bookings post-BREXIT as British holidaymakers seek out low cost city breaks in the UK.
The brand of award winning serviced apartments, located in Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Chester and Nottingham, has experienced an increase in bookings across the group as the falling value of the pound has fuelled a trend towards the ‘staycation’.
Prime Minister Theresa May announced £40m funding earlier this year to help Britain compete with international tourism destinations and encourage Brits to champion the ‘staycation’ in order to boost the UK’s tourism industry. This was coupled with a prediction from the Tourism Alliance estimating that the extra takings for staycations in the UK in 2016 is set to be £2.4 billion.
Two thirds of the UK’s visitors come from European countries and there’s also been a reported increase in international tourists visiting the UK, said to have contributed to a 7 per cent rise in spending in summer 2016.
Mark Walton, COO of Roomzzz Aparthotels, said: “We’ve seen a huge surge in bookings in the months following the BREXIT vote and it seems that the fall in value of the pound encouraged more UK residents to look at city breaks at home, rather than abroad. Equally, we’ve experienced an increase in bookings from international tourists who are capitalising on their favourable exchange rates and visiting UK cities.
“The central location of Roomzzz Aparthotels, and the freedom and convenience of a serviced apartment, has also been popular with those looking for a getaway in the city. We hope accommodation providers will continue to benefit from the increased investment in the UK tourism industry as we look to open our first Aparthotel outside the North of England in London in Spring 2017.”
