This January, Bonny Porter, founder of Balls and Company in Soho is hosting a ripper line-up of Aussie chefs for a one-off celebration dinner on 26th January. Bonny and her fellow ex-pats will celebrate Australia Day with a feast filled with nostalgia, as they capture a taste of home.
Bonny will be joined by Sydney-born Matt Robinson, Executive Chef of Dickie Fitz, Fitzrovia’s very own taste of the Pacific, and Andrew Bredon (Bredo) head honcho at Bel-Air, the home of feel good fast food who grew up in Adelaide on a diet of sun, sea and surf. Taking over the kitchen, they’ll be cooking up their ultimate menu that reminds them of warmer days Down Under.
Covering the classics, Bonny will lead with Vegemite & Cheddar Churros, before moving onto the main Antipodean event of Charred split prawns courtesy of Bredo and Matt’s Chicken Parma and Aussie Meat Pie, with Chicken salt fries on the side for good measure. Rounding off their ode to Oz, Bonny will sweeten things up with a Milo Tim Tam, while Bel-Air have created an Anzac cheesecake especially for the occasion. To wash it all down is a handpicked selection of wines by Australian winemaker Peter Logan from Orange, NSW as well as Vale IPA and Amber Ale from McLaren Vale, in South Australia. In true Aussie style, the evening will finish with a parting shot of Starward Whisky at Balls & Company’s underground drinking den, Company Below.
“We have such a talented bunch of Aussie chefs in London and I’ve wanted to get everyone together for a while – Australia Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to showcase the Australian way of cooking. This will be an unmistakably true blue feast with all of our favourite national delicacies” says Bonny.
