With a nod to England’s integral pub heritage, the hotel has been lovingly restored to highlight key features including exposed wooden beams and brickwork in a comfortable setting, combining leather, granite, limestone and oak to create a relaxing atmosphere. Neutral tones, rustic furniture and comfortable olive-green banquette seating is brought to life with warm low-level lighting, beautiful fresh flowers, fine wine cabinets and cosy fireside armchairs. Towards the front of the hotel is the bar area which offers a range of local beers, ales and an innovative bar menu.
A separate exclusive private dining room is perfect for special celebrations and business meetings and can be booked for up to 14 people. Overlooking the adjacent emerald-green garden and terrace areas, it affords the option to dine on the alfresco terrace in the summer months. When the weather is warm, the fabulous garden comes complete with outdoor barbeque and plentiful outdoor seating. This unique spot is an ideal place to hold large events of up to 200 guests for weddings, parties and special occasions.
At the stove is the talented chef Michael Chapman, formerly head chef of Michelin-Starred The Royal Oak at Paley Street. The seasonally changing menu features locally-sourced ingredients from Berkshire’s top producers and farmers, whilst the seafood is delivered daily from Brixham boats. Expect indulgent dishes such as blow-torched Brixham mackerel with tartare sauce, Granny Smith apple and horseradish; Windsor Estate mallard (wild duck), roasted and confit; and Herefordshire beef fillet with Jacob’s Ladder and Roscoff onions to feature on the menu.
Other highlights include passionfruit soufflé with coconut sorbet; chocolate mousse with salted caramel, gooey brownie and peanut ice cream; and a fine selection of British cheeses with homemade fig chutney and biscuits.
The extensive fine wine list, especially crafted by Alex Sergeant, the former sommelier and general manager of the Michelin-Starred pub the Harwood Arms, perfectly complements the food. With a selection of over 130 bottles ranging from £20 to £280, each wine comes with extensive tasting notes and many have been personally selected from independent vineyards from France and Greece as well as further afield from Argentina and Lebanon. The list includes delectable bottles such as Joh. Jos. Prüm, Cederberg and Ramey. High-end premium wines include Gaja Barbaresco, Lynch-Bages and Ridge Montebello.
The sleek bar also serves a selection of locally brewed ales, as well as a range of artisan beers from nearby breweries, including West Berkshire Beer, Rebellion, Captain Wingtip and Lovibonds Henley Gold. For gin enthusiasts there is an extensive artisan gin and tonic list which is both unique and diverse as well as an array of classic cocktails such as Stiggin’s Daiquiri and Garden of Eden.

All Superior rooms have freestanding roll-top baths and ultra-comfortable king-size beds.
