Chipotle’s spooky ‘boo-rito’ fundraiser returns this Halloween

By James Russell: Chipotle’s spooky ‘boo-rito’ fundraiser returns this Halloween

October 28, 2016

Chipotle Mexican Grill, which has six restaurants across London, including Soho, Baker Street, Islington and, most recently, The City, has announced the return of its popular Halloween fundraiser, ‘Boo-rito’.

On Monday, 31 October, Chipotle will treat customers wearing fancy dress to a burrito, burrito bowl, salad, or order of tacos for only £2.  All proceeds from the fundraiser, with a minimum pledge of £10,000, will be donated to charity Action Against Hunger.

Matthew White, Director of Fundraising and Communications, Action Against Hunger, comments: ‘We’re terrifyingly excited to be partnering with Chipotle on this year’s Boo-rito campaign.  Head on down to your nearest restaurant in fancy dress, enjoy some fang-tastic food for just £2 and help raise money for Action Against Hunger.  Bone appetite!’

Jacob Sumner, UK managing director for Chipotle, adds: ‘We are committed to changing the way people think about and eat fast food, and through our annual ‘Boo-rito’ fundraiser we have been able to impact organisations such as Action Against Hunger.  Our minimum pledge of £10,000 could provide up to 10,000 days’ worth of therapeutic food for malnourished children to help them regain their health’.

Chipotle, which hails from the USA where it operates over 2,000 restaurants, opened its first restaurant outside North America, at Charing Cross Road in central London, back in 2010.

Chipotle has been instrumental in establishing a new kind of thinking about fast food in the U.S., what it calls ‘Food with Integrity’, and it continues to bring the same food philosophy to London.  Chipotle has been recognised by Compassion in World Farming at the annual Good Animal Welfare Awards and has received a Good Chicken Award and a Good Pig Award; Chipotle was praised for its approach to the sourcing of its raw ingredients but in particular for its commitment to using free-range pigs for its pork carnitas and RSPCA Freedom Food certified poultry for its chicken dishes.
