Throughout October and November, Orso, the classic Italian restaurant in Covent Garden will celebrate Alba truffle season with a menu paying homage to the prized delicacy from the hills of the Piedmont. Diners will be able to enjoy generous shavings of white truffle, at cost price, on a selection of exclusive dishes designed by co-owners Tim Healy and Lawrence Hartley, whose menu will only be available during the remarkably short harvest season.
Complementing Orso’s Italian regional cuisine with the delicate flavour of the white truffle, dishes will include; an aperitivi of crispy chickpea fries and truffle mayonnaise; cauliflower risotto with shaved white truffle; fresh tagliatelle with butter sauce, parmesan, and white truffle; and a special ‘Pizza Alba’ with robiola, walnuts and a shaving of some of Alba’s best.
Main courses will include veal escalope with fontina, spinach and truffle butter, whilst dessert sees a selection of Italian regional cheeses – Piedmont Boschetti and truffle Pecorino – and panforte, amongst other favourite Italian sweets. As an extra indulgence, diners will also have the option to supplement their own menu choices with an additional shaving of white truffle.
‘Few ingredients are more evocative of autumn, or more of a pleasure to eat and share than Alba truffles’, says co-owner Tim. ‘We’ve been lucky enough to visit the Piedmont region during truffle season and our dishes reflect those memories of beautiful Italian produce and rustic, comforting dishes, but with a touch of added luxury’, adds Lawrence.
The restaurant, which opened in a former orchid warehouse in the heart of busy Covent Garden in 1985, evokes memories of 1950s Milan. With its pale terracotta walls, crisp white tablecloths, and vintage tiling, Orso offers a charming, rustic ambience to sample the Italian gems of the culinary world.
