YMCA is the largest Third Sector organisation in North East London. Amongst many services, we provide accommodation and support for +300 homeless young people at a series of hostels, one of which is London’s largest direct access hostel.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Chef to join our catering team in our brand new café. We have opened our new leisure facilities and in line with this exciting venture our new café will be available to the community along with their friends and family, as well as to local groups for hire. We are keen to ensure the community café presents a place where customers can enjoy their eating experience in a pleasurable environment.
About the job:
The post holder will be responsible for providing meals for residents and the public paying customers, increasing sales and profitability and maintaining high standard of catering and customer service at all times. The duties will include:
- Supervising a team of kitchen staff
- Assisting the Catering Manager in purchasing food and ensuring daily recording of temperature readings
- Assisting the Catering Manager to ensure that all financial and cash handling procedures are adhered to
- Ensuring that food is ready to be served by restaurant opening times and that the preparation of all meals and service required meet the standards of the organisation
About you:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Recognised catering qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 706/1,706/2 or NVQ Level 3)
- Minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as Chef running large and small kitchens
- Experience in managing a team and planning staff work rotas
- Experience in cash handling and cashing up as well as working within a budget
- Experience of providing quality nutritionally balanced menus with an awareness of allergy and nutritional content of menu ingredients
- Ability to work under pressure and handle difficult situations in a calm manner
