Travelodge, one of the UK’s largest independent hotel brands announces it has opened its first hotel in Haverhill with the acquisition of the Days Inn hotel – on Phoenix Road, Business Park, Haverhill.
This is the fourth mid-market hotel, Travelodge has secured this year. The other properties includes: two Ramada Encore hotels in Milton Keynes and in Chatham and a Days Inn property in Derby.
The new Haverhill Travelodge, an 80 room hotel with restaurant, meeting room and on-site parking for 80 vehicles will boost the company’s portfolio to 534 hotels.
Fifteen employees including the hotel manager as well as nine outsourced housekeeping colleagues have all transferred under TUPE Regulations to Travelodge with immediate effect.
As part of the transaction, the landlord, Jaynic Investments is investing £700,000 to modernise the hotel in line with Travelodge’s new contemporary brand design. The refurbishment work is being undertaken by local contractors, Troy Construction, and the hotel will operate as normal during this time.
This investment includes modernising the hotel in line with Travelodge’s new modern brand design and includes the company’s latest room concept which has been created by its customers.
The new contemporary, upgraded room will feature a bespoke luxurious, cosy king-size bed called the ‘Travelodge Dreamer’. This type of bed is normally found in five star hotels world-wide. In addition individual beds will be installed for children in all family rooms.
To help create a warm and cosy ambiance in the new room so that customers obtain a good quality night’s sleep, Travelodge has worked with a chromotherapy expert and has introduced a sleep inducing colour palette to the room’s décor. The new Travelodge room feature wall will be painted a tranquil blue, as research shows our body clock is programmed to relate the colour blue to the hours of darkness. So when we look at the colour blue, our metabolism slows down, making us feel relaxed and sleepy.
The hotel’s reception, hallways and restaurant area will also be updated in line with Travelodge’s new brand style.
Tony O Brien, Travelodge UK Development Director said: “We are very pleased to have acquired the Days Inn hotel and open our first Travelodge in Haverhill. We have been looking to open a hotel in the town for some time and are delighted to secure a site at the business park.
This opening boosts our portfolio to 534 hotels in great locations and marks another step on our journey to build a new Travelodge that is Britain’s favourite hotel for value.”
“With our effective business model we can easily convert existing hotels into thriving Travelodge’s. Over the next three months, we will work around the clock and update this property into a new contemporary Travelodge hotel.
With our modernised hotel, upgraded product offering and unbeatable value, our hotel team are well placed to service business and leisure visitors to Haverhill.”
Nic Rumsey, Managing Director, Jaynic Investments said: “We are delighted that Travelodge has taken a 25 year lease to operate the hotel, as there is a growing demand for high quality and good value accommodation in Haverhill. As one of the UK’s leading hotel brands, under Travelodge’s management, we are confident the hotel will only go from strength to strength.”
