New seasonal menu unveiled at top Wearside restaurant

By James Russell: New seasonal menu unveiled at top Wearside restaurant

August 8, 2016

The success of Sunderland’s newest destination restaurant has led to some exciting new seasonal additions to its menu, along with extended opening hours for its food offering.

The Karbon Grill at the Hilton Garden Inn, Sunderland, opened its doors in April, offering Pan-American cuisine with a Latin flavour.

And now the restaurant has added in a range of new dishes reflecting the change in seasons, along with the introduction of a bespoke, lunchtime menu, fantastic afternoon tea, served in the Karbon Bar and a special children’s menu.

The new summer and autumn additions to the already popular menu – which will launch next Monday (15 August) – include the addition of healthy eating options such as seared tuna salad and a signature Karbon Salad with marinated chicken breast, avocado and a poached egg.

The restaurants’ popular steaks – cooked on a Josper grill – will of course still be available, while the pasta and pizza offering will see new dishes such as New York style spaghetti and meatballs and spinach and ricotta artisan ravioli added.

During the daytime, popular elements of the main menu will be served in the relaxed environment of the Karbon Bar, with the addition of light bite options for anyone who prefers something less substantial at lunch time.A range of salads, wraps and sandwiches will be available, along with burgers, steak and chips, ravioli and a chicken and a veggie fajitas option.

By popular demand, the Karbon Bar is also introducing a traditional afternoon tea, which includes cakes and sandwiches, along with its own signature innovative American version, featuring dishes such as pork and chorizo sliders, buffalo chicken wings, mini key lime pie slices and pecan tart – all washed down with mini milkshakes.

Hilton Garden Inn Sunderland’s General Manager, Kim Kelso, said the new menu not only reflected the change in seasons since its initial launch, but also gave diners more options.

“We were very conscious that many people are on the go at lunch time so may just want to pop in and have a sandwich in an informal setting, which is why we are now opening the less formal Karbon Bar during the day,” she said.

“We have also had visitors asking us about serving afternoon tea, which we know is growing in popularity, which is why we are launching it with two distinct offerings – a traditional English version and the more innovative American style version.”

Future plans at the Karbon Grill include the launch of The Five O’Clock Club on Thursdays and Fridays, which will include special offers on cocktails and other drinks, complimentary bar snacks with the first round of drinks and a range of discounts and special offers for early evening visitors.

The restaurant is based at the 141 bedroom Hilton Garden Inn Sunderland, which is adjacent to the Stadium of Light. Ample free parking is available throughout the day and evening and there are two Metro stations, (St Peter’s and Stadium of Light) located just a few minutes from the venue.
