Crerar Hotels Trust has made a £5,000 donation to UCanDoIT, a charity who provide specialist computer training for the elderly and people with disabilities. The contribution was celebrated at GoGlasgow Urban Hotel during a special cheque presentation on July 29th, 2016.
About UCanDoIT
UCanDoIT aim to ensure that the people they help have the necessary tools in place to maintain their independence; combat serious social issues of loneliness, isolation and economic deprivation and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
Patricia Webb, Development Manager at UCanDoIT shared that over 38% of the 4,500+ learners supported to date have achieved paid or voluntary employment and/or qualifications through the support of the charity and the remainder gain skills to access social media, Skype, online shopping and banking as well as gaining the ability to research and contact local and national organisations directly.
The charity has now branched out through Scotland with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee, Inverclyde and South Ayrshire among the areas helped by dedicated professional trainers who have delivered their award winning training for over 270 people in Scotland.
How the donation will be put to use…
With the donation from Crerar Hotels Trust, UCanDoIT has set up Getting People with Disabilities Online Scotland; a three year project aiming to ensure 150 more people with disabilities gain home access to a computer and receive their award winning training courses.
Paddy Crerar, Chairman of Crerar Hotels Trust has commented saying, “Gaining access to computers and the internet is now a basic necessity in our society. We are pleased to be supporting a charity offering such vital training to people in our communities who really need it.”
UCanDoIT are one of over 70 charities to receive funding from Crerar Hotels Trust in the past year alone. The trust, chaired by Paddy Crerar, is tasked with the distribution of more than half of the hotel group’s distributable profits to charities, community projects and good causes that have links to where Crerar Hotels are located or have interests.
