Hammerson announces the opening of Tortilla, the first restaurant in Scotland for the popular Mexican themed dining brand, at Silverburn shopping centre in Glasgow. Located at the entrance of the 100,000 sq ft leisure extension, Tortilla’s 127sqm and 58 cover restaurant officially launched on June 20.
Tortilla was launched in 2007, bringing burritos and tacos to London, by taking inspiration from the self-proclaimed burrito capital of the world, San Francisco. The brand has since grown to 29 restaurants in UK with Silverburn marking its debut in Scotland. Created by Brighton based agency Design LSM, Tortilla features accents of bright colour and subtle Mexican theme.
The brand joins the strong line-up of new and exciting restaurants within Silverburn’s recently launched £20 million dining and leisure extension, including a 14-screen Cineworld cinema, Glasgow’s first and brands such as Thaikhun, Carluccio’s, Chimichanga, Cosmo, Zizzi, TGI Friday’s, Five Guys, handmade burger Co., Pizza Hut and Nando’s.
Sarah Fox, Head of restaurants and leisure at Hammerson commented; “We are thrilled about the opening of Tortilla and choosing Silverburn for their Scotland debut. At the entrance to the leisure extension the restaurant completes the vibrant mix of restaurants on offer and also reaffirms the centre’s position as the region’s premium retail, dining and leisure destination. This offer will certainly appeal not only to the local catchment but also to customers from further afield, and ensure visitors return again and again.”
Property Director from Tortilla, Rob Lucy adds: “The leisure extension at Silverburn is the perfect platform for our expansion plans in Scotland. The location itself benefits from a wide consumer base and the new restaurant launch has been a huge success for the brand. We anticipate the visitors at Silverburn will appreciate the new look Tortilla, especially designed for the unique location at the gateway to the prime dining area.”
Bruce Gillingham Pollard acted on behalf of Hammerson in the deal and Cushman and Wakefield represented Tortilla.
