More than 50 local children have enjoyed a behind the scenes sneak peek into world famous chef, Albert Roux OBE, KFO’s Chez Roux restaurant at the award-winning Cromlix.
The visit was arranged for the Doune Primary School pupils as part of Mr Roux’s pioneering Chef’s Adopt a School initiative – a national charity partnership with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and Service which aims to enhance young people’s understanding of food by teaching culinary skills, growing produce and explaining the importance of healthy eating.
As part of the initiative, which is now in its 26th year, the pupils learned about the workings of the kitchen from executive head chef Darin Campbell before taking a tour of the restaurant’s kitchen gardens which are a unique source of organic local produce.
Speaking of the visit, Darin said: “It was great to have the children from Doune Primary School visit the Chez Roux Restaurant and gardens. We’re very pleased to continue our commitment to inspiring the next generation of culinary talent and hope that the initiative will demonstrate opportunities for young people who live near Cromlix.”
The school visit follows regular hands-on cookery demonstrations over the past year from the Chez Roux team at Cromlix as well as a culinary feast which was prepared for the parents of the pupils last October.
Lyndsay Macnair, Head teacher at Doune Primary School, added: “We are very proud to be working closely with Mr Roux and his team at Cromlix. The initiative gives the children a great insight into hospitality and culinary career prospects and the opportunity to learn more about growing local produce whilst enhancing their skills.”
Albert Roux OBE, KFO, is head of the famous cooking dynasty behind renowned London restaurant Le Gavroche, the first restaurant in the UK to be awarded three Michelin Stars.
