From pop-ups to resident shacks and finally a roaming Airstream – now the Burger Shack from Young’s has found a permanent home in Wimbledon. Welcome to the BurgerShack & Bar.
Formerly the site of The Fire Stables pub, the Wimbledon venue has been transformed into a laid-back dining area, complete with urban décor, an ever-developing Anglo-American menu and BurgerShack Bubbles – Vino Frizzante on-tap. Serving Burger Shack favourites including The Streaky (served with Hepburn’s streaky maple bacon) and The Veggie (crispy beetroot, fennel, lentil & mozzarella burger) there are also delicious new editions and a brunch menu.
It’s not just about burgers – BurgerShack & Bar has delicious dishes including lobster and crayfish roll with avocado, shredded lettuce, Marie Rose sauce and curly fries; buttermilk fried chicken Caesar salad with Lincolnshire Poacher cheese and treacle bacon; Reuben sandwich with salt beef, Swiss cheese, pickled cabbage on sourdough with a side of curly fries. For something extra naughty, enjoy the Dirty Fries with pulled pork, smashed avocado and sour cream. Vegetarian? We’ve got that covered too, with our quinoa, avocado, kale, beetroot, watercress and butternut squash salad – de-licious.
A tantalising array of sharers and sides also feature – expect house slaw (red cabbage, lime and chilli); scorched corn served with smoked chilli butter; watercress, avocado and cucumber salad; cream stuffed jalapenos or Ogleshield mac ‘n’ cheese. Top off with a sumptuous dessert of key lime cheesecake, Bramley apple pie or decadent salted chocolate, peanut butter and popcorn.
Brunch is served daily from 10am to 4pm – choose from a varied menu including roasted grapefruit with star anise sugar and elderflower yogurt; crushed avocado, poached eggs, goat’s cheese and sourdough toast; or waffles with treacle cured bacon, fried egg and maple syrup.
Wash down your meal with craft beers from Meantime, Brixton Brewery and Gypsy Hill Brewing Co amongst others, or a craft draft like Young’s IPA or Beavertown-Neck Oil IPA. There’s also locally distilled spirits or a hard shake (raspberry with Absolut Raspberri vodka or honey comb vanilla with Jack Daniels Honey – yes please!). A bursting wine list includes soft and fruity reds, ripe and rounded whites and bold and fruity rosés, with a fine selection available by the carafe. Or simply toast to the summer with Square Root sodas (handmade in Hackney), a wide coffee menu, including bottomless filter coffee, fruit teas plus juice.
