Christopher’s Covent Garden Turns 25

By James Russell: Christopher’s Covent Garden Turns 25

June 1, 2016

Having opened its Grade-II listed doors for the first time in 1991, Christopher’s Covent Garden reaches the grand age of 25 this summer. Kicking off the celebrations on 11th July, the classic American restaurant and bar in theatreland will host a series of anniversary activities from ‘Pay What You Paid in 1991’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ tasting menus to ‘cocktail roulette’ in the art-deco Martini Bar.

The Flash Back…

Inviting diners to step back in time to 1991, Christopher’s ‘Pay What You Paid’ menu will be a treat for the taste buds as well as the wallet. Created from archived menus, guests can indulge in classic Christopher’s dishes such as Caesar Salad (£9 to £6.50), Beef Carpaccio (£11 to £7) and USDA 8oz Fillet Steak (£40 to £15) at their original prices. Christopher’s ‘Pay What You Paid’ menu will be available in the dining room at lunch and dinner between Monday 11th July and Wednesday 13th July 2016.

The Retrospective…

Taking in 25 years of culinary adventures at Christopher’s across eight thrilling courses, the ‘Greatest Hits’ Tasting Menu is designed to delight old and new fans alike. Priced at £75 per person and served in Christopher’s elegant dining room overlooking Waterloo Bridge, highlights include Maryland Crab Cake, Tomato Jam, Arugula (1991); Scallop, Chorizo, Chickpea & Truffle Cream, Pistachio Praline (2016); Surf’n’Turf Lobster & 4oz USDA Prime Fillet, Tobacco Onions (2005) and Iced Margarita Mousse (1997). The menu will also include tea or coffee and petit fours, with a wine/martini pairing option at an additional £50 per person. The ‘Greatest Hits’ Tasting Menu will be available from 14th July to 30th September 2016.

The Game…

Celebrating the building’s illustrious past, which includes originally opening in 1870 as London’s first licensed casino, Christopher’s talented mixologists have created a cocktail menu featuring six signature martinis including Lychee Rose Martini, Thai Spice Martini and Almond Cigar Martini. Available in the stunning art-deco Martini bar, each cocktail will come with a golden dice, giving guests a chance to roll a lucky six and have their chosen martini on the house. Play Christopher’s cocktail roulette every Sunday to Wednesday from 14th July to 31st August.

The Sweet Finale…

In 25 years, Christopher’s has made many a sweet-tooth very happy … In homage to their much-loved classic American dessert selection, not to mention their hugely popular dessert martinis, they’ve created an ‘Afternoon Tea-ni’ pairing the two into one fabulous anniversary afternoon tea. Priced at £25 per person and served in the Martini Bar, the indulgent trio will feature mini versions of Nutella Martini with a Chocolate Brownie; New York Tartini with a mini cheesecake and Karamel Apple Pie Martini with a freshly baked madeleine. Christopher’s Anniversary Afternoon Tea-ni will be available from 14th July to 30th September.
