‘Bien fresh’ at Ceviche Soho

By James Russell: ‘Bien fresh’ at Ceviche Soho

June 20, 2016

Ceviche Soho is set to shake things up this summer season, with fresh new additions to the menu and an exhibition from two of Peru’s most celebrated photographers: Adrian Portugal and Zoë P Massey. Inspired by the energy of Lima’s beach life in the summer, Ceviche will bring the spirit of the Peruvian capital to London.

“Lima is one of the most exciting cities in the world and it’s at its liveliest in the summer especially at the beach of Aguadulce. This is where limeños can really express themselves, cheekily and freely with the ‘chicha spirit’. I wanted to bring that vibe to London, captured in the artwork, throughout the restaurant, as well as the new drinks and dishes.” says founder Martin Morales.

The new summer menu of dishes will include ‘Pollo en Brasa’ – coriander-panca chilli marinated chicken thigh, broad bean criolla and sweet potato; ‘Cobia Chorillana’ – Chorillana-style cobia, rocoto chilli and steamed cassava chips; ‘Causa La Buena Vida’ – heritage carrots, avocado cream, beetroot and horseradish purée & cold potato; and ‘Nuestro Secreto’ – scallops tiradtio, hibiscus tiger’s milk, chia seeds gel and charcoal salt.

The bar team have also been busy competing in their quarterly cocktail contest to create new pisco-based cocktails for the summer, including the Liliko’i – ginger-infused Barsol pisco, passion fruit puree, Chase elderflower & guanábana juice; and the Fatu Hiva – Orange-infused Barsol pisco, blackberries, Clement Creole Shrubb and Angostura bitters.

Further bringing the soul of Lima to London, Ceviche Soho’s walls will be hung with the works of Peruvian photographers Adrian Portugal and Zoë P Massey. Focusing on his own brand of ‘positive realism’ Adrian Portugal’s series ‘Aguadulce’ (Sweetwater) focuses on the popular beach in Lima, using heavily saturated colour to bring to life the constant carnival and chaos of the space. Whilst Lima born Zoë P Massey’s ‘My Peru in a Pocket’ series creates graphic depictions of patriotic symbols to reinforce her pride of being born Peruvian.

Photographer, Martin Parr comments: ‘There has been a huge focus on the food of Peru, and we are lucky to see that in London in the form of Ceviche Soho. Photography has also enjoyed a real waking in Peru, and Adrian Portugal is one of the key new players, so it’s good to see his work arrive into London’.
