Field & Fawcett, the award winning wine merchants and delicatessen on the outskirts of York, is opening a café in early summer 2016. Located at Grimston Bar, on the Hull Road and close to the A64 from Leeds to Scarborough, The Café at Field & Fawcett will offer home cooked, classic food from early mornings through to late afternoons. Spearheaded and managed by Cathryn Fawcett, who owns Field & Fawcett with husband Peter, The Café is located within the same farm buildings from which the wine merchants has been successfully operating for 10 years.
Field & Fawcett provides wine to some of the country’s best restaurants and hotels, and through its delicatessen, sells wine and gourmet food to its regular retail customers. The Café will seat 30, with food served at table within an interior and style conducive with the existing shop and surroundings. Food will be the best of the British classics and twists on traditional favourites, with breakfasts one of their core dishes. Opening Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm, Cathryn is looking to pick up the early trade from business travellers, commuters to York and tourists from the A64, as well as daily trade from residents. An award winning cook in her own right, Cathryn is keen that customers enjoy a range of food in a relaxed atmosphere and the kind of food that will set them up for the day.
Says Cathryn: “As a family business we were keen to expand and The Café was the natural next step. We have converted one of the barns at Bingley House Farm into a 12m X 4m café with access to a sunny terrace for outdoor seating. We’re only working with the best suppliers and therefore using just the finest ingredients to ensure that our food is a combination of home cooked, seasonal and simple dishes with quality and seasonality a big part of our philosophy. We are relishing the challenge of getting The Café ready and we’re planning to open in June. We look forward to welcoming new customers and hope our regular visitors will also find the time to relax and enjoy The Café.”
The Café will be licensed and will host the acclaimed Field & Fawcett wine tasting evenings.
Headed up by Cathryn, The Café will employ six new people, including new cook Claire Yeomans originally at the Mulberry Hall café. This is in addition to the team at the wine merchants of four in addition to Cathryn and Peter Fawcett. Watch this space for the opening date announcement.
