It may only have been open a few months, but already Savini at Criterion has established itself as one of the most exciting additions to the London restaurant scene.
Not one to rest on its laurels, this spectacular Grade II listed space in the heart of Piccadilly Circus is introducing a collection of new menus spearheaded by a seasonal à la carte that features an array of dishes highlighting the diversity of Italian cuisine.
From the alpine heights of northern Italy to the sun-drenched island of Sicily, each of Italy’s 20 regions has its own particular terrain, climate and traditions. This results in a huge diversity of dishes, sometimes with tastes as different as those between nations. Head chef Giovanni Bon has taken some of the best of these regional specialities and imbued them with international flavours and ingredients to create such unique offerings as Alaskan black cod with soya sauce, vegetables caponata & candied ginger; Risotto with aubergine caviar, tomato concassé, basil & mozzarella cream (left); Beef fillet cooked in butter, asparagus, bacon & potato cream & mustard (below) and Herb-crusted prawns, pistachio crumble, asparagus & habanero tartar sauce.
Also destined to become firm favourites among regulars and new visitors alike are two recently introduced set menus.
Offering the more casual or time-pressed diner the perfect way to enjoy this spectacular neo-Byzantine dining room and bar, with its gold ceiling and marble columns, is Savini at Criterion’s new set lunch menu.
Served between noon and 3pm daily, this features a choice of such irresistible starters as Carrot velouté with ginger, marinated anchovies, black olives & crunchy spring onion; mains such as Fillet of sea bream wrapped in foil served with tomatoes, lemon, fresh basil & courgette flowers and desserts that include Nougat & candied orange mousse with pistachio glaze. The two course menu is priced at £26.00 per head and the three course at £32.00.
