Dalloway Terrace launches Alfresco Afternoon Tea

By James Russell: Dalloway Terrace launches Alfresco Afternoon Tea

May 19, 2016

Dalloway Terrace is bringing the Afternoon Tea home to Bloomsbury with the launch of its Alfresco Afternoon Tea this May. Guests are invited to make the most of the warmer weather, or hide from the rain, on the idyllic indoor-outdoor terrace which is nestled in the heart of Bloomsbury.

Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford in the 1830s and a former resident of Bloomsbury’s Bedford Square, is credited with first transforming ‘Afternoon Tea’ into a formal social occasion. The Duchess found taking an afternoon snack to be such a perfect refreshment that she soon began inviting her friends to join her. Afternoon Tea quickly became established and was welcomed into many middle and upper class households. Dalloway Terrace, named after the eponymous character created by Virginia Woolf, an author whose name will forever be associated with Bloomsbury, is delighted to be continuing this quintessentially British tradition in the area.

The classic afternoon tea has carefully been prepared by Pastry Chef Mariatu Kargbo. Mariatu recently joined the team at Dalloway Terrace, bringing with her a wealth of pastry experience, from a number of formidable establishments, including The Dorchester, The Lanesborough and The Berkeley. Highlights include smoked salmon & crab rillette served with the signature Guinness bread, smoked corn-fed chicken in brioche, Bloomsbury brownie, Mascarpone & saffron meringue, Cambridge burnt cream and freshly baked plain & sultana buttermilk scones.
