Welcome break opens first Ed’s Easy Diner site at South Mimms

By James Russell: Welcome break opens first Ed’s Easy Diner site at South Mimms

April 22, 2016

Welcome Break, the UK’s leading independent motorway services operator, is proud to announce the opening of its first Ed’s Easy Diner site, at the South Mimms service station located at J23 of the M25 near Potters Bar. The refurbishment represents circa £1,000,000 investment by the company, and has created 29 jobs in the local area.

Motorists visiting the service station can now enjoy a new kind of roadside dining experience, at the retro-American chain. The launch of Ed’s Easy Diner sees a move back towards traditional Motorway Services Areas where people are catered for, it will offer a table service to customers staying in the newly-opened Ramada hotel at the South Mimms site; whilst also providing an additional environment where Welcome Break’s amenity customers can relax and enjoy their meals.

The new Ed’s Easy Diner was officially opened to the public on Monday 18th April 2016 by Welcome Break CEO Rod McKie, alongside the Mayor and Mayoress of Hertsmere, Cllr Martin Worster and Mrs Pam Worster. Customers at the launch got into the swing of things; with entertainment by dancers dressed in Grease-style clothing dancing to classic music from the 1950s and 60s, there were also 1950s style cars including Cadillacs at the amenities.  Customers were also able to enjoy complimentary samples of the delicious food and drink that will be on offer at Ed’s Easy Diner, including milkshakes, burgers and cheesecake.

The launch of Ed’s Easy Diner will perfectly complement the existing food court at South Mimms, which offers a variety of other outlets including KFC, Starbucks, Tossed, Harry Ramsden’s, SUBWAY and Burger King. This ensures Welcome Break customers have a wide variety of delicious food to choose from whilst on the go.

Welcome Breaks CEO, Rod McKie, said: “Since we announced Welcome Break’s partnership with Ed’s Easy Diner I have been looking forward to welcoming our customers to this new roadside dining experience. In recent years we have noticed a growing trend with our customers, who tend to enjoy more dwell time at our service stations, and we wanted to offer them a new dining experience that allowed them to do this. I am so excited to finally open the doors to Ed’s Easy Diner to our South Mimms customers, and we hope they enjoy the great quality food and American-style diner experience.”

Paul Gilligan, Property Director of Ed’s said

“This marks a special point in Ed’s history and the start of what we hope will be a long term partnership with Welcome break.

We’ve always felt that diners and drivers go hand in hand which is why this is a perfect fit for us”
