The recently opened POLPO Knightsbridge, located on the Fifth Floor of Harvey Nichols, is to launch a Franciacorta & Prosecco Bar on 1st May. Showcasing beautiful new antique stem glassware, and neon ‘Prosecco’ sign, the bar will celebrate the very best of Italian sparkling wines.
“There’s much more to Italian sparklers than just your average Prosecco Extra Dry and we want to show off all the amazing varieties that Italy has to offer. The new bar will give customers an opportunity to taste a wider range of Italian sparkling wines”, says Tom Ross, POLPO’s Bar Manager.
Included on the new menu will be one of the all time great Italian sparkling wines, the Ca’ del Bosco’s Franciacorta Cuvee Prestige, which is made in the metodo classic style and has notes of apricots and toasted nuts. Franciacorta differs from sparkling wines such as prosecco; produced from grapes grown in Lombardy it is Italy’s first wine to be created with the classic “champagne” method. Other highlights include Pojer e Sandri’s “Zero Infinito” a straw yellow, cloudy wine made in the “Col Fondo” style which tastes just like a Harry’s Bar bellini, but straight from the bottle; and the Extra Brut “Celeber” Prosecco from Dal Bello imported exclusively for POLPO Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge. Its extreme dryness makes for an excellent aperitivo and a perfect accompaniment for POLPO’s fried olives.
The menu will also include a short seasonal, prosecco based, cocktail menu which features drinks such as, POLPO’s version of the Twinkle – rosemary infused vodka stirred with elderflower and topped with Piedmontese 100% Sparkling Chardonnay Blanc de Blanc; and POLPO’s Venetian version of the classic French ’75 is lifted with the inclusion of fresh blood orange, perfectly complementing the Brut Prosecco.
The bar provides the perfect place for a post-shopping glass of sparkling wine or pre-dinner aperitif. Whilst the restaurant itself takes inspiration from the rustic backstreet wine bars of Venice and features an array of simple but delicious small plates from the region of Veneto. Signature dishes on the menu include cicheti such as fried stuffed olives, zucchini arancini and fig & prosciutto crostini. Whilst small plates include cod cheeks with lentils & salsa verde, pizzetta with spicy pork and pickled peppers, deep fried polenta-crusted meatballs, and sliced flank steak with porcini.
