A York city centre hotel has been the first hotel/ restaurant in the city to be recognised with a prestigious award for the way it cares for its real ales.
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel – which has recently undergone a major £3m transformation – has been presented with the Cask Marque – a proof of great quality cask ale.
The accolade is given to establishments that follow a set of strict guidelines for the way they keep their beers, and are judged by qualified assessors who make anonymous visits to ensure standards are not only met, but exceeded.
Graham Usher, General Manager of the Best Western Monkbar Hotel, said: “We are very proud of achieving this well-known accreditation and it’s a reflection of the pride our bar staff take in their work.
“Whilst a number of pubs and bars in the city do hold this honour, we are the first hotel/restaurant to have been awarded this accreditation.
“For the Monkbar Hotel customers, this award means that the quality of beer we serve is the absolute best.”
Mr Usher added: “The first four months of 2016 have proved to be momentous for the Monkbar Hotel.
“Since the completion of our £3 million refurbishment, we have gained a fourth AA star, have been “Top Rated” in a national awards scheme voted for by guests, and now, we have been awarded with the Cask Masque accreditation.”
