London dining scene named as one of the best worldwide in the fifth annual Elite Traveler Top 100 Restaurants in the World.

London has been named as one of the world’s hottest dining destinations, according to the fifth annual poll of readers by lifestyle publication Elite Traveler.
El CellerLondon boasts five restaurants on the Elite Traveler Top 100 Restaurants in the World placing the city as the third most coveted in this year’s awards behind only New York with 10 and Paris with eight restaurants.
Dinner By Heston Blumenthal – ‘Meat Fruit’ (c.1500) Mandarin, chicken liver parfait & grilled breadKnightsbridge’s Dinner by Heston Blumenthal leads the London charge, jumping up 12 places to number 13 in this year’s list. On being awarded London’s highest entry, Heston Blumenthal said: “It’s an absolutely amazing achievement for Ashley and the entire team. The opinion of every one of our guests is important and for Elite Travelerreaders to take the time to vote for us is simply quite humbling. Of course, it’s an honor to come top in the UK, but awards or accolades are not a race. We want our guests to enjoy what we do, but going out to eat is really so subjective. I recognize that people want different restaurants for different things.”

I broke the lemon tart by Paolo TerziA delighted Ashley Palmer-Watts, Head Chef at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal added: “To have moved this far up the list in just one year is pretty amazing. This is an open poll and Elite Traveler diners eat in thousands of restaurants all over the globe every year. I’m just honored to have been this highly considered by everyone and also incredibly proud of the team at Dinner. Ultimately, this if for them!”
The LedburyTwo other London restaurants make the top 25. Gordon Ramsay’s flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay was named 18th in this year’s rankings and Notting Hill based The Ledbury was named 22nd. It was a double whammy for Ramsay with the Chef also being awarded the prestigious accolade of “Chef of the Year”.

Le BernardinFor the fifth year in a row the number one place went to Chicago’s Alinea, a progressive, molecular gastronomy-led restaurant. On coming first, chef-owner Achatz said: “It is an amazing honor to be selected as the best restaurant in the world for five years running by Elite Traveler. Alinea strives every day to produce the best possible experience and it is incredibly rewarding to be recognized by the dining public as doing so.”
Le GavrocheAlso representing London further down was Amaya (90) and Michel Roux Jr Le Gavroche (95).
AmayaThe addition of Gleneagles based Restaurant Andrew Fairlie’s helped the UK come out as the joint fifth best country for fine dining tied with Japan and China after USA, France, Spain and Italy.
