Today, UKinbound – the leading trade Association representing the UK’s inbound tourism sector – introduced new Tourism Minister, David Evenett MP, to the Household Cavalry Museum – one of its longest standing members.
As part of English Tourism Week, UKinbound encouraged its members to actively participate in Tourism Constituency Day. Initiated by the Tourism Alliance, MPs were asked to show their support for English tourism by visiting relative businesses in their constituency. In response to the Household Cavalry Museum’s interest to take part, UKinbound invited the new Tourism Minister to visit as part of the celebrations to which he keenly accepted.
As prominent members of the Tourism Alliance, UKinbound were keen to support such an initiative. Deirdre Wells OBE, Chief Executive Officer of UKinbound commented “English Tourism Week provides an excellent opportunity for our members to celebrate their huge contribution to the UK economy. We are delighted to support our members in their work to raise the profile of this important industry with MPs and Ministers – an industry that contributes over £22 billion to the economy each year”.
Commenting on today’s visit, David Evenett MP observed, “Our tourism industry is a global success story and I am delighted to celebrate and support this thriving sector during English Tourism Week. Our world-class attractions, such as the Household Cavalry Museum, are a huge draw for tourists and help encourage millions of international visitors to our shores every year.”
In the lead up to English Tourism Week, UKinbound, which represents 350 members of the travel and tourism industry in Britain, sent letters to their local MPs inviting them to visit their businesses. Acknowledging the chance to showcase their quality and valuable products, UKinbound members have been keen to reinforce the importance of inbound tourism within the economy and the Household Cavalry Museum today enjoyed that proud moment to do so.
Martin Westwood, Director of Commercial Development and Operations at the Household Cavalry Museum said, “We’re delighted that the Minister has visited the Household Cavalry Museum, one of London’s galaxies of excellent smaller museums, which all in their unique ways contribute to the staggering variety that London offers its 18million annual visitors”.
As the 7th biggest export earner for the UK,inbound tourism to the country is an important economy contributor. UKinbound believes that events such as English Tourism Week are crucial to highlighting the importance and value of the industry, as well as UKinbound’s campaigns; #TourismABC which calls upon the new Government to Acknowledge, Build and Commit to tourism in order to drive employment and export income, and #mytourismjob which supports and encourages people to pursue careers in hospitality.
