Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group, the leading UK boutique hotel brand and a member of Frasers Hospitality Group, has today committed to further investment in its people, taking on 33 new chef apprentices across the country.
The hotels, made famous by their renowned food and drink offering, want to get young people excited about a career in catering.
Working closely with HIT Training, the leading provider of training and apprenticeships for the Hospitality Sector, Malmaison Hotel du Vin’s ultimate aim is to have at least one chef apprentice across each of their 33 properties at all times.
With an average kitchen brigade of just nine chefs, apprentices will be working closely with the Group’s passionate and experienced Head Chefs. Starting with the classic cooking methods and techniques, the 18 month scheme teaches the building blocks for aspiring chefs, and gives them the opportunity to learn from the best.
For those that show real promise, there is also an opportunity to be selected for the Chef Acadamy. Developed with HIT Training, this enables the most dedicated apprentices to gain additional culinary skills alongside their apprenticeship.
Lindsay Southward, Group Director of People & Development, said, “Our stylish brasseries and bistros are at the heart of our hotels, and so bringing fresh talent into our kitchens is a big priority for us. With a growing skills gap in the catering sector, our programme is designed to encourage a new generation into the industry, instilling the sense of creativity that fills our kitchens.”
She continued, “A large part of the Group’s success is undoubtedly down to its people. We work hard to make sure our staff always have the opportunity to develop and it is important to us that staff can grow in their role.”
Jill Whittaker, Managing Director of HIT Training, said, “It’s fantastic to see companies such as Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group, committing to ongoing apprenticeship programs. With 50% of kitchens struggling to fill vacancies, apprenticeships are a practical solution to the skills shortage in the Industry. With Intermediate, Advanced and Higher qualifications available, there are opportunities for aspiring chefs at any age or level to develop their skills and forge a successful career. As a Sector we should all work together to encourage more people to enter the kitchen through training and apprenticeship schemes.”
To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, Malmaison Hotel du Vin is offering the opportunity for those interested in applying to come and meet the head chef at their local hotel. If this is of interest to you, please email your CV with a covering note to National.Apprentices@malhdv.com, stating which hotel and which location you’d like to work at.
