Today marks the start of the eighth annual British Pie Awards held in Melton Mowbray Church. 816 pies, from the UK’s best producers, will be judged by over 100 pie aficionados – all competing to take to the top title, Supreme Champion.
There are 20 classes including, this year’s Speciality Class which allowed creatives to bake a ‘pie fit for her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday’. The pies will be judged by TV chefs, food critics, food writers and enthusiasts. Names include Charles Campion, Andy Bates, Lucas Hollweg and Neil Davey.
Pie producers competing for a prestigious British Pie Award this year will now be in with a chance of their winning pie being featured on the menu at Roast – the popular London Borough Market restaurant renowned for its classic British dishes.
