Rabbit & The Shed celebrates WWF’s Earth Hour

By James Russell: Rabbit & The Shed celebrates WWF’s Earth Hour

February 23, 2016

On Saturday 19 March 2016, at 8pm Rabbit & The Shed restaurants are turning the lights out and serving their customers a candlelit dinners to celebrate WWF’s Earth Hour. Both restaurants will be offering a special six course tasting menu on the evening where guests will be asked to guess the ingredients to the dishes.

To celebrate the global event, WWF has once again joined forces with Food Made Good to bring candlelit dinners to diners across the UK. Rabbit and The Shed and other Food Made Good restaurants will be joining forces with thousands of businesses globally to turn their lights off for one hour to create a symbolic moment, not designed to have impact through an hour of energy saving, but to help put a spotlight on the issues facing the planet.

Food security is one of the most pressing global issues and Food Made Good restaurants are ideally placed to help consumers better understand and appreciate the need for sustainable diets and managing the planet’s precious resources.

To celebrate Earth Hour 2016, Rabbit & The Shed will be:

  • Switching off all non-essential lights in the dining area and replacing them with candles by 8pm
  • Serving a specially created tasting menu where guests have to guess the ingredients
  • Encouraging our customers and employees to sign up by promoting the event through our social media

‘We are proud to take part in WWF’s Earth Hour and both our customers and staff are excited to be involved with such a great and inspiring event. What better way of getting involved and celebrating, than enjoying a candle-lit dinner with friends or loved ones? Everyone can make a difference to help protect our planet and we all have a key role to play,’ said co-owner Richard Gladwin.

Jennifer Clements, spokesperson for WWF-UK, said, “We’re thrilled that Rabbit & The Shed will be taking part in Earth Hour this year and hope that they’ll inspire many others to get involved. By taking one simple step to switch off, you’ll be joining millions of people from around the world in this special celebration.”

Over the last decade, WWF’s Earth Hour’s unique display of darkness has become a global phenomenon with hundreds of millions of individuals coming together each year. In 2015, a record-breaking 172 countries and some of world’s most famous buildings including Big Ben, Hong Kong’s skyline and the Sydney Harbour Bridge joined the global celebration. In the UK alone, over 10 million people took part, along with over 4,800 schools, 200 landmarks and thousands of businesses and organisations.

Everyone can join the celebration for WWF’s Earth Hour on Saturday 19 March 2016.
