The Pop-up Bar That Won’t Close its Door

By James Russell: The Pop-up Bar That Won’t Close its Door

February 3, 2016

This might be the best news you’ve heard all year… One of London’s longest standing pop-up bars is back with a vengeance. The flatmates are celebrating their six-month lease extension this spring, sporting an all star series line-up and of course an all American new housemate. That’s right The Little Yellow Door is officially ‘the pop-up that won’t close its door.’ Their infamous house parties, retro gaming nights, kitchen suppers, Thursday takeovers, supper clubs with The Wandering Chef and indoor gardens, will live on to see us through those dreaded winter months.

To celebrate the extension of their lease, TLYD will host one helluva housewarming party on Saturday 6th February, to welcome in their newest housemate from across the pond, American hotshot, Hank. The flatmates have spruced up their humble abode for the new arrival, where stars and stripes will be hung to embrace Hank with open arms. Hank will arrive just in time for a pre-Super Bowl kick off party, featuring a new sharing cocktail, ‘The Super-Bowl’ where guests can drink out of authentic Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants NFL Helmets.

For all those who have visited TLYD before may or may not have departed with an item, or three which did not belong to them. The housemates will be holding an amnesty for any looted items, offering a cocktail on the house in return for your honesty, and those who never lost their moral compass in the first place, are welcome to bring along a housewarming gift for the flatmates at 68 Notting Hill Gate.

Of course, as with all housemates at TLYD, Hank will be the inspiration behind the newest food and drinks menu, which plays upon the nationality of the latest flatmate. This time the Wandering Chef will be serving up an array of American classics such as Philly Cheesesteaks with Pulled Beef Shin, Swiss Cheese and Pickled Chilli & Onions, Buffalo Wings with Crudités & Blue Cheese Dip and Truffled Mac ’n’ Cheese with Chestnut Mushrooms and Creamed Spinach.

The Little Yellow Door’s Friday Dinner Party has already become a Notting Hill institution, selling out every week since it opened. To celebrate them staying put their talented chefs have created a new all American menu including dishes such as Savoury Donuts with Sweet Shrimp, Cajun Crab Remoulade & Pickled Chilli and New England Clam chowder with Shrimp and Corn to start, followed by Boards of Bourbon Glazed Ribs, Pulled Beef Shin, Buffalo Wings, Smoked Sausage, Burnt Ends, served with Pickled Chilli and Kraut Slaw, Potato and Bacon Salad, Mac ‘n’ Cheese, with Pickles & Burnt Onion Ketchup. For pudding guests can look forward to Oreo, Banana and Bourbon Hard Shakes and Malt Cream Brownies with Raspberry, before tables and chairs are moved aside and the night turns into a full blown house party, TLYD style.

This February TLYD will celebrate London Fashion Week in style and host Magatu’s House Party, in tribute to the classic film Zoolander. Upon arrival guests will be able to pull out their best blue steels on the paparazzi clad yellow carpet, before being welcomed by really really ridiculously good looking flatmates, who will be sporting iconic fashion line ‘Derelicte’ on the evening. Throughout the night Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell will be beamed into the flatmates living room, via a large projector screen, while guests are transformed to a relaxing and happy place with ‘Relax’ being played every hour, on the hour.

Since the quirky pop-up bar, based on a fictional flatshare, opened its Little Yellow Door in October 2014, it has rapidly become a West London institution, and the infamous house parties have seen queues lining up far down Notting Hill Gate. Last year they created their very own indoor garden and their popular Friday dinners tends to get booked up weeks in advance. It’s the only London venue where bookings can be made via WhatsApp, and it’s true what they say: “Visiting The Little Yellow Door, you may arrive with three friends and leave with ten…”
