BII Reveals Mike Clist As MD in Newly Created Role to Maximise Value to Members

By James Russell: BII Reveals Mike Clist As MD in Newly Created Role to Maximise Value to Members

February 2, 2016

Following on from its recent restructure, the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) has today announced Mike Clist, formerly of Fuller’s, as MD from 1st April 2016. The newly created position, which will be on a part time basis, highlights the professional body’s lean structure and commitment to maximising value to its members.

Clist brings 38 years’ experience on the operational side of pubs, most recently as Operations Director for the Tenanted Division of Fuller’s, where he was responsible for 205 Tenanted and Leased pubs. Before that, he was General Manager (Tenanted) at Allied Breweries which became Allied Domecq and later Punch Taverns. In the context of MRO, Clist’s experience on the Pub Governing Body (PGB) Board will ensure the BII provides the most comprehensive support in what is likely to be a big year for members.

Anthony Pender, Chairman of the BII, comments: “As first choice, Mike’s appointment is a real coup for BII members as he can truly connect and understand their businesses. Not only is he particularly suited for this role because of his experience in the tenanted environment but, having been a trustee for a number of years, Mike is already completely aligned with the BII.

“The move to a part time MD is real testament to our strong leadership team and their ability to deliver BII strategy as identified by the Trustees.”

Mike Clist comments: “Tim has done a great job as Chief Executive and I am delighted to continue his good work in order to optimise the BII member experience. I have had a long-standing relationship with the BII as a member myself, trustee and industry advisor communicating the perspective of the tenant and so am keen to offer my industry knowledge to the BII in such a key role.”
