Red Dog Saloon launches Sandwich Shop concept

By James Russell: Red Dog Saloon launches Sandwich Shop concept

January 6, 2016

Red Dog Saloon are opening their first American BBQ sandwich concept in Lakeside, Essex in early 2016.

Authentic, fresh hickory smoked bar-b-q from their imported American BBQ smokers are offered in a casual atmosphere for eat in or takeaway at reasonable prices. Prices for sandwiches start at £4.50 and there is plenty to choose from in the £7 to £9 range.

Fresh Bar-b-q sandwiches are served simply – both the 12 hour smoked brisket and 16 hour smoked pulled pork are pulled fresh from the smoker and served on a steamed bun with Kansas City sauce, slaw and pickles. This allows the flavour of the meat to shine through.

Speciality Sandwiches are a little more complex. Their take on the classic ‘Philly Cheesesteak’ has been renamed the ‘Texas Cheesesteak’ which is filled with soft, juicy brisket, fried peppers, onions and topped with melted provolone cheese, all served on their signature steamed bun.

For something a little more adventurous, try the Colt 45 where the brisket is topped with Kansas City sauce, provolone and fried onion rings. For Bar-b-q purists, Bar-b-q is also available naked. Plates of Bar-b-q are available from £8.75 and include a side and pickles.

Burgers are 100% ground chuck served on a steamed bun and in addition to the classic Cheeseburger, and the Bar-b-q/burger hybrid, the Texan they also serve up a version of the infamous Devastator in the form of ‘Son of Devastator’.

Sides like Mac n Cheese, Onion Rings and BBQ beans make a great accompaniment to Bar-b-q … and it wouldn’t be Red Dog without chicken wings – available in 3 flavours.

Signature sauces

And there’s Red Dog’s 3 signature sauces. Kansas City sauce is a traditional style thick bbq sauce perfect on ribs, as an add-on to burgers or as a French Fry dip. Less conventional is the Carolina sauce, a vinegar based sauce made for brisket and pulled pork. For those who want more zest, the Sweet and Spicy is a mustard based sauce that’s amazing on chicken wings or as an addition to burgers, though some swear by it on their Bar-b-q as well.
