Leading food provider for the health & social care sector, apetito, has retained its ISO 14001 accreditation following successful completion of the assessment process.
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard for an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). It’s designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact and, to secure the accreditation, apetito was required to improve resource efficiency, reduce waste and drive down costs. The company also had to provide evidence that its environmental impact was being measured and improved.
Meeting environmental and economic goals
Mark Lovett, Sustainability Manager at apetito (pictured above), says: “The ISO 14001 accreditation is a vital benchmark in helping us ensure we meet our environmental and economic goals, while enabling us to comply with legislation in every aspect of our business.
“We strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible and every change – no matter how big or small – makes a noticeable difference to our footprint.”
Commitment to reducing impact on the environment
apetito has a longstanding commitment to reducing its impact on the environment. In its drive to operate more sustainably, solar panels have been installed on-site and a wildlife corridor has been established to encourage biodiversity. In addition, the company has also achieved a 39% reduction in carbon emissions, 43% reduction in water usage, 42% reduction in Electricity, and a 32% reduction in Diesel.
Most recently, the company introduced pioneering lorries capable of significantly reducing its impact on the environment. The ground-breaking Solomon Slipstream – DAF lorries are among the first to be produced that meet the new Euro 6 European emission regulations, reducing the amount of potentially harmful emissions.
