Award-winning event caterer Seasoned has always been big on helping the environment and ‘staying green’. Having achieved the ISO 14001 Environmental Management accreditation in 2008, it has truly proved its dedication over the years to being an eco-friendly company.
Here, Operations Manager Terry Korobin gives H&C News and its readers an insight into some of the green initiative processes that run throughout the company.
Water
Switching to Life water is just one of the ways Seasoned has converted into an environmentally friendly company. Life water is 100% recyclable, carbon neutral and is organically sourced.
Seasoned also encourages clients to use tap water where possible. You can expect to find mint, lemon and basil infused creations – not the average tap water.
Walk don’t ride!
Terry explains: “The pedometer challenge encourages staff to walk as much as possible or share taxis or coaches for big events. If staff are working on numerous events in London in one day it can actually be quicker to walk than take public transport. Over the last year our staff members have accumulated 683 miles between them.”
Paperless quotes
“We have also introduced paperless quotes recently. They are all sent via email instead of being printed out and, at our sole site Tower Bridge, we have made it a priority to always print double sided to help save paper.”
Recycling
When it comes to recycling, Seasoned is trying to get more involved each year by actively looking for products that don’t come with a lot of packaging. The polystyrene ice chests used as packaging for the company’s fresh fish are always returned to the supplier to be re-used and any glass is recycled.
Some facts and figures
Terry revealed some of the facts and figures which show just how much of a difference Seasoned is making:
“Between February and September 2015, 67.72% of all waste was recycled by our waste management company. This figure does not include all our cooking oil which is refined into bio diesel and our returned suppliers’ packaging,” Terry said.
“This is a massive increase from 52.77% in the previous year. It’s a good sign and we look forward to seeing these figures rise in the future.
“Seasoned’s green initiatives mean so much to us as a company because ‘staying green’ and helping the environment is at the heart of everything we stand for.”
